ABOUT
US
For
over 25 years, the Central Tablelands Motor Cycle Club has been involved in Enduro
and Moto-X events for anyone that wishes to participate. It is a wonderful way
to spend your time whether it be for leisure or competition.
Based
in the State Forest between Lithgow and Bathurst, the club has steadily grown
in membership and patronage to events from people all over the world. Our most
popular event is the Sunny Corner Trail Bike Rally. This event has gradually grown
over the years from its humble beginnings of 60 riders to what it is today with
over 600 riders.
HISTORY
OF THE CENTRAL TABLELANDS MOTORCYCLE CLUB
The
Central Tablelands MCC was formed in1981 when members of the Panorama club left
to form a more "Enduro" orientated club. The original office bearers of the club
were; President - Ian Weal, Secretary - Sherrie Hall, and Treasurer - Mal Porter.
The club initially began to run grass-track moto-x events at "Karingal", Mt Lambie
on the property of Graham & Meg Blowes.
In
1982 the CTMCC took on the task of hosting a round of the NSW State Enduro Championship.
The event saw over 200 of the states best riders turn up for the event. With the
event only hours underway, disaster struck, when an arsonist began lighting fires
in the forest. Immediately the event had to be stopped and the safety of the competitors
was paramount, with organizers hurriedly trying to ensure everyone was out of
the forest and accounted for.
For
the next 3 years the CTMCC concentrated on running club level Enduro's and Moto-X
events with great success. However, with a declining number of competitors, the
CTMCC decided to hold a non-competitive trail ride in the Sunny Corner State Forest.
This was accepted enthusiastically by the people who took part in it, and this
was to be the birth of the Sunny Corner Trail Bike Rally. The event gradually
grew over the years from its humble beginnings of 60 riders to what it is today
with over 600 riders regularly turning up each year to ride in the states best
forest.
In
July 1987, the club hosted a round of the Mr Motocross series at the "Karingal",
Mt Lambie track. A field of Australia's best moto-x riders took part, with Glenn
Bell coming out the eventual round winner. It was in the years after this event
that club memberships began to decline, due to members family commitments and
a lack of junior riders moving up through the ranks to assume organizational roles.
The CTMCC then decided to concentrate on its ever growing Sunny Corner Trail Bike
Rally.
The
Sunny Corner Trail Bike Rally is traditionally run in September each year, as
this time of year is considered by Forests NSW as being a lowest fire risk. The
Rally has gradually grown over the years with help from volunteers such as Rural
Fire Service, Forests NSW, Communications Brigades and many other local organizations.
With this effort the CTMCC is able to assist local community groups in essential
fund-raising activities such as Wallerawang Public School and the NRMA Careflight
Helicopter Service.
As
the popularity of the event has grown it has equally attracted the presence of
sponsors, who provide prizes for the entrants, drawn from a barrel in a lucky-dip
type draw. The most noted one of these is the events naming rights sponsor, KTM
Sport Motorcycles Australia, who provide 2 brand new motorcycles to be given away
to 2 lucky entrants each year. It is with the assistance of KTM Australia and
the many other sponsors that the Sunny Corner Trail Bike Rally is what it is today.
